Xen virtual machine monitor

Computer Laboratory - Xen virtual machine monitor: "Modern computers are sufficiently powerful to use virtualization to present the illusion of many smaller virtual machines (VMs), each running a separate operating system instance. Successful partitioning of a machine to support the concurrent execution of multiple operating systems poses several challenges. Firstly, virtual machines must be isolated from one another: it is not acceptable for the execution of one to adversely affect the performance of another. This is particularly true when virtual machines are owned by mutually untrusting users. Secondly, it is necessary to support a variety of different operating systems to accommodate the heterogeneity of popular applications. Thirdly, the performance overhead introduced by virtualization should be small.

Xen is a virtual machine monitor for x86 that supports execution of multiple guest operating systems with unprecedented levels of performance and resource isolation. Xen is Open Source software, released under the terms of the GNU General Public License. We have a fully functional ports of Linux 2.4 and 2.6 running over Xen, and regularly use it for running demanding applications like MySQL, Apache and PostgreSQL. Any Linux distribution (RedHat, SuSE, Debian, Mandrake) should run unmodified over the ported OS."

SAP Network use

SAP Network use: "Introduction"

Network Issue in SAP

Using HTTP Modules To Combat Leeching

The Code Project - Using HTTP Modules To Combat Leeching - ASP.NET: "The article explains how an HTTP module can be used to combat leech requests to resources on your domain through GET or POST HTTP request methods. The code snippet provided defines a class that implements the IHttpModule interface. An instance of this class will hook into the ASP.NET runtime and intercept the BeginRequest event of the HttpApplication object and determine if the requested URI came from a leech link on another website. Leech links are simply links pointing to resources on your site without your knowledge or authorization.

This technique can be used to prevent the outside world from posting links to resources on your domain without authorization to do the same. For example, if you maintain a list of sites that have been authorized to provide links to your website, then you can put into effect a selective screening routine. On the other hand, if there are domains that you do not want to be referred from, this technique will again, prove equally useful. I have not provided the code to these ends though. My intent here is to simply illustrate a basic possibility. But you could mail me if you are interested to know how to go about it, but I believe you should be able to pull it off without much ado after reading through this article."

Fujitsu Automation HOAP-3

Fujitsu Automation HOAP-3 :: TechJapan :: English news on technology from Japan: "Fujitsu Automation has announced their 'HOAP-3' humanoid robot. It looks to be pretty compact with a 60cm height. Additions to this version include image recognition and some various sensors. I also didn't realize the thing has a Pentium M processor and runs Linux, and Fujitsu Automation even publicizes the internal interface info...this thing would be a homebrew delight!

Fujitsu Automation announced on the 5th that they have begun accepting orders for the 'HOAP-3' small humanoid robot, developed in cooperation with Fujitsu Labs. It is Open Price.

HOAP-3 is the successor to the 'HOAP-1' announced in 2001, and the 'HOAP-2' announced in 2003. While the HOAP-2 improved upon the HOAP-1 in the area of movement capabilities, the HOAP-3 takes those same capabilities from the HOAP-2 and has been improved upon in external recognition and communication functionality.

The size of the unit is slightly larger than the HOAP-2; it stands about 60cm tall and weighs some 8.8kg. Since a camera, microphone, speaker, expression LED, audio recognition function, voice synthesis function, and image recognition function have been added, the unit is suitable for studies involving human communication, or hand-eye coordination research. A distance sensor, grip sensor, acceleration sensor, and so forth have been added, and all of these can be controlled from a PC using wired or wireless LAN.

The controlling OS is RT-Linux, and the CPU is a Pentium M 1.1GHz. Like the previous models in the HOAP series, the internal interface information of the hardware/software for the unit will be released, making self-programming possible. Also, simulation software for pre-confirmation of control programs is included."
