Setting SMTP AUTH using Postfix and SaslAuthd on Ubuntu 5.04

Things involving me: "Got SMTP-AUTH working on spleen (this server, running Debian Sarge), which wasn't overly difficult, but a few things have to be considered, particularly if you're running postfix in a chroot (default in Debian)."
